Summer activities in Chamonix

As you may know, we went on a blog trip with Mazda and the Rocky Pop Hotel earlier this week. It was a great experience because we love the mountains! So we thought it was a good idea to offer you a guide to Chamonix in summer.

What to do in Chamonix in summer ?

The mountain is not only good in winter! By the way, to discover the top 5 things to do in Chamonix in winter, it is here. In the meantime, if you are looking for a destination for your summer vacations, Chamonix is the place to be. The resort is very large and there is a lot to do.

Summer activities in Chamonix

1 – The summer sled

We tested the summer sled during the blog trip. The kids that we are were delighted! If we let go the brakes at full speed, it makes sensations as in the merry-go-rounds. We made 2 turns but we could have made 50

2 – Sports activities and sensation

For the amateurs of sport and strong sensations, you have the embarrassment of the choice in term of activities in Chamonix:

  • Mountain biking
  • Paragliding
  • Via Ferrata
  • Climbing
  • Treetop adventure course
  • Canyoning and rafting

3 – Hiking at the Lac Blanc

The white lake is one of the most beautiful in France. However, it must be earned. I think it is the most difficult hike we have done. The bivouac is allowed between 7pm and 9am! The next time, it is what we shall make because the sunset and the sunrise must be splendid up there…

From the Col des Montets – 4h45 A/R – 9,4 km with 970 m of cumulated difference in height Alternative : take the funicular of the Flégère + the chairlift of the index. The hike will then be only 2h45 and 7,6 km

4 – Hike to Lac Vert

The Lac Vert hike is much more accessible. The Lac Vert is located in Passy, 40 minutes by car from the center of Chamonix. The color of the water is splendid.

To get there, park in the parking lot at “La Côte” in Servoz (see map). The walk is about 4 km and 1h45.

5 – Climb to the Aiguille du Midi

The Aiguille du Midi culminates at 3 842 m. This place is a must-see in Chamonix, even in summer! Up there, you will see an incredible panorama of the surrounding mountains. For even more sensations, go and try the Pas dans le Vide, this small box attached to the mountain.

The amount of snow in the summer is impressive. See for yourself on the pictures!

Our adventures with Mazda

During this stay in Chamonix, we were accompanied by the Mazda brand to discover their range of cars. We discovered three models. There was something for everyone: an SUV (the CX5), a crossover (the CX3) and a sports convertible (the MX5). This was a first for us and we were pleasantly surprised with the exterior lines and interior quality of the models.

? The MX5 convertible is the most “fun” to drive, it feels like you are in a kart so much that the seat is low! Then to contemplate the magnificent landscape of Chamonix it is a real plus to be in the open sky ?

? The CX5 SUV is much bigger but so fun to drive, you feel safe and you dominate everything. We would like to make our long journeys through France with it!

? The CX3 crossover is a good compromise for the city and the road. Very handy and at the same time voluminous, it is the best-selling of the brand. We thank Mazda France for inviting us to try these models in such a beautiful setting!

Where to sleep in Chamonix?

We were welcomed at the Rocky Pop Hotel. It is located in Les Houches, 5 minutes from the center of Chamonix. The RockyPop, as the name suggests, has plenty of “POP” reminders, it is all in the detail !

It differs from other hotels in Chamonix by its positioning in terms of price. Indeed, by relocating a few minutes from Chamonix, the hotel offers double rooms from 60€. You will also find a large free parking lot. The hotel has 148 rooms for 2 to 12 people. You can come as a couple, with your family or with friends in one of the two fully equipped penthouses!

This hotel targets a younger and more relaxed clientele, at a more accessible rate without lowering the quality of services. There is plenty of room to relax after a day of sports with table footballs, arcade-type video games, a petanque court, a bar with screens and a Zen area with lots of FatBoy (huge poufs). The decoration is really very successful. It is an establishment in which one feels good.

The excellent breakfast is available from 6H30 to 10H and can be taken outside or in the space called “la banquise” which offers a breathtaking view on all the mountains thanks to its large windows all around.

Where to eat in Chamonix ?

  • For a quick lunch: at the foot of the Aiguille du Midi cable car, go to the Epicerie du Midi. The salads at the salad bar and the snacks are perfect for a quick lunch.
  • For a simple dinner in a nice atmosphere: eat at the Rocky Pop restaurant. Prices are affordable. The burgers and pizzas are delicious !
  • For a more upscale dinner: go to the Akashon restaurant in the Héliopic hotel. The quality/price ratio is very good. If temperatures allow it, eat on the terrace with a view of the Aiguille du Midi. In case it gets cooler, the restaurant provides very nice plaids.

This trip was organized by Mazda and the Rocky Pop Hotel, which does not change our opinion and our feelings.
