Weekend in Megève : What to do in summer ?

We say it often enough, but after many countries visited around the world, France remains the most beautiful to us. We have such a diversity that it is impossible to run out of ideas! And precisely, in this hot period, the most judicious option is the escapade in mountain. So, we headed to the Alps for a weekend in Megève in the summer, to breathe and discover different activities that the resort offers. It was not the first time, we really appreciate this place. Megève has a very chic image, a village center with a lot of charm, nice addresses and luxurious chalets all around.

Where to sleep during your weekend in Megève in summer ?

During this stay, we stayed at La Ferme du Golf ***, on the heights of Megève. The setting is beautiful, the staff is adorable and attentive. The view from the balcony of our room was incredible. What a joy to wake up facing the Alps! A petanque/mölkky court is available for guests.

What to do in Megève in summer ?

We are going to share with you our experience of our weekend in Megève in order to guide you in your choices for your next stay in the mountains in summer.

DAY 1 of your weekend in Megève

💧The Belle au Bois waterfall

Once you have left your stuff at the hotel, go to the Belle au Bois waterfall. The path from La Ferme du Golf is ideal: 40 minutes walk with long shaded passages through the forest.

Halfway, after 20 minutes of descent, you will cross the stream of the waterfall at the Creux Saint-Jean. Perfect to take a break, refresh yourself and/or take pictures. The second part is a bit more difficult, with 130 meters of positive difference in altitude, but is still accessible to all.

For your summer in Megève, we advise you to go to the waterfall between 11am and 1pm in order to have the maximum light. We were lucky that day, we were alone for 30 minutes! It was so nice that we did not want to leave.

 😋 Lunch in Megève

We tested the restaurant Le Refuge and its pleasant terrace. The setting is beautiful and the food is very good. The wooded decoration makes the atmosphere warm. We really enjoyed everything, but special mention to the bowl of vanilla ice cream!

💧Summer activity in Megève : the aquatic hike

Under a blazing sun, there is nothing like a water hike to digest in the fresh air. This activity is proposed with a guide of the resort. It was a first for us and we enjoyed discovering the nature with our feet in the fresh water. Be careful to wear shoes that can go in the water. The aquatic hike is accessible to young and old alike!

❤️Picnic at Lake Javen

After a sportive day, our hotel La Ferme du Golf prepared a picnic basket with lots of good things. The picnic is included in the special offer mentioned at the beginning of this article.

For us, the ideal spot to enjoy this romantic moment is the Lake of Javen. This emerald blue lake offers a breathtaking view of the surrounding mountains and peaks. In high season, a restaurant and children’s activities are available on site.

DAY 2 of your week-end in Megève

Activity in Megève in summer : mountain bike ride in front of the Mont Blanc

One of the advantages of Megève is its proximity to the Mont-Blanc and its glacier landscapes, as beautiful in summer as in winter. To discover as many places as possible, we opted for electric mountain bikes.

For that, we went to Philippe Sports at the foot of the Rochebrune cable car around 10am. Once the bikes in our possession, we took a one way ticket to go up to the top with the ski lift. As soon as we arrived, we had a great time! A real postcard :

Alpine lunch in Megève

With our electric mountain bikes, we took the path to the Alpage de Pré Rosset a little more than 3 km away. The path is not very difficult but there is a nice hill that must be quite difficult (if not impossible for us) without the electric assistance. We are quite sporty by nature, but we have to admit that it’s handy to have some help in these circumstances.

The Alpage has two terraces, a small one with a view on the Mont-Blanc and a large one with a clear view on the surrounding mountains. We love this kind of setting in the middle of nature. The service and the food were excellent! We will come back there to try the good Savoyard dishes this winter.

Itinerary for your mountain bike ride

Once we had our fill of energy, we were ready to go back down. We chose a route passing by the lake of Javen, because we wanted to admire its beautiful color during the day.

⚠️ Be careful, the path is very complicated and we had to walk beside our bike for almost 20 minutes. Indeed, many roots and bumps are present. On the other hand, the path is magnificent, so if you are a daredevil and you are not afraid of having a sore buttocks: go for it!

For the others, we advise you to go back to the bottom of the resort through the Côte 2000. One part will be on a carriage road and the other on a tarred road. You are free to let yourself be guided by the different paths available thanks to the Google Maps application and why not take a longer walk.

Summer aperitif on the terrace and dinner

We took the time to enjoy an aperitif on the terrace of the hotel La Ferme Du Golf (also included in the offer)!

Then we left the hotel and walked to the Refuge du Calvaire. The dinner was excellent and the setting exceptional. A wooden terrace has been built in a field and the view is great. This restaurant is only accessible by foot. An exception is made for people with reduced mobility, just call the restaurant to let them know beforehand and they will give you access by car.

DAY 3 of your weekend in Megève

If you decide to extend the pleasure of a summer getaway in Megève, here are our recommendations for enjoying the mountains:

Flying over Mont Blanc

This is probably the most memorable experience of our year. If you have the opportunity, we advise you to experience this flight around the Mont Blanc massif. The landscapes are breathtaking, you feel like in a dream. For those who are afraid of flying, do not worry: it’s very safe! A little hello to our pilot Nicolas if you read us, thanks again for this moment!

A paragliding flight

❤️ Dinner at Spaggiari

To end your weekend in Megève in summer, we recommend you to go to the Spaggiari restaurant, in the heart of the village. If there is an address you cannot miss, it is this one.

The products are excellent and imported from Italy. Antipasti, pizzas… everything is good. Alain is at the bar and has worked in the most beautiful hotels in the world, he will know how to offer you something to refresh you. A little extra: the decoration and the menu are based on the theme of robbery. Stop by and take a look at the toilets. We love it!
